Unusual Pottery Mark or Signature

I recently purchased a small lot of pottery at an estate auction. Nothing in the batch seems to have any significance except for one small wall pocket piece. I have included a photo of the piece for your convenience. The auction was held in the small town of Marshall, NC located in Madison county (approx. 30 min west of Asheville, NC.
