Interesting Asian Figurine Lamps - (photos)

A friend of mine has these two lamps in her basement.

When I saw them, I knew they were old. She said they were her Grand-parents lamps. That dates them back to the 1940's or before.

Does anyone know who made these, when were they made and where were they made?
